Poisons Information 24 Hr Hotline
The poisons information line is a 24-hour service for veterinary teams that require support with managing poisoned patients. The service can be reached on 1300 869 738 (from Australia) or 0800 869 738 (from New Zealand). Out of standard operational hours, your call will be diverted to our on-call Poisons Information Consultant.
When you call the poisons information line, we may ask for the following information to assist in making a risk assessment:
Details about the animal that has been exposed such as the animal’s name, sex, breed, weight and past medical history.
Details about the exposure such as the route of exposure, the time of exposure and the quantity.
Details of any treatment that has already been performed prior to calling us.
Details about the poison(s) they have been exposed to such as the product name and concentration. Where possible, always try to have the product or a photo of the product in front of you when you call.
The patient’s clinical status including any symptoms that have developed since the exposure.
Our Poisons Information Consultant will then conduct a risk assessment on the exposure and provide information on the expected clinical course, management advice and observation recommendations.
